Acne Treatments & Skin Care

Acne is a difficult and frustrating disease. Its effects go beyond the physical, affecting confidence and self-esteem; it’s difficult to treat, and acne can strike at various ages.

There are many different treatments for acne, but reliable results can be difficult to achieve.

Dr. van Aardt and his associates believe in taking a consistent approach to achieve the best results:

  • proper diagnosis
  • appropriate step-by-step care
  • regular follow-up

By combining prescription treatments and laser based treatments with appropriate skin care, they achieve better, more permanent results in less time.

Recommended laser treatments include: • Blue Light • Photo Rejuvenation Photo Dynamic Therapy

Blue Light for Acne

BLU-U Blue Light Illuminator is used in conjunction with other treatments for acne.

The BLU-U is a very specific blue light (410nm) that kills the acne bacteria (p. acnes) in your skin.

Treatments are done over 5 weeks and are simple, safe and painless. You sit with your face close to the light once or twice a week for up to 30 minutes in total.

Treatment with blue light can control your acne or clear it up for very long periods of time with a success rate of up to 60%. With appropriate skin care based on the advice of our trained professionals, clearance rates are even higher.

Skin Care for Acne

The treatment of Acne is most successful when a comprehensive strategy of medical and clinical skin care is followed. Our medical estheticians follow a plan designed by Dr. Van Aardt to address the skin care needs of acne patients. It starts with an appropriate skin care regime and carefully selected skin care products to assist the process of bringing Acne in remission. In cases where the acne is very stubborn, additional medical steps may have to be taken and then an assessment with Dr. Van Aardt may be required. Medical treatments are introduced to compliment the skin care plan and implemented in a team approach by Dr. Van Aardt and the medical estheticians.

Medical and esthetic treatments are blended in a way to provide the best possible outcome and patients receive the support and encouragement they require through this process that can often be frustrating, as Acne is slow to respond to any treatment interventions. The expected timeline for complete remission is typically one year from when the treatment plan is put in place. Treatments may include peels, Blu-U treatment, Photodynamic Therapy, topical prescription treatments, oral antibiotics and laser treatment.

Rocacea acne is another common skin concern and has very few treatment options. We can assist by providing the most effective skin care regime and prescription treatments available for this condition as well as to help reverse the redness and spider veins often associated with it by using IPL technology in combination with Photodynamic Therapy.

Please discuss your acne concerns with one of our qualified staff members and we will be glad to assist you to gain control of this frustrating problem.
